About Serenity Farms

Operating under the motto "Cultivating Hope, Healing and Community," Serenity Farms focuses on expanding local opportunities through housing initiatives and comprehensive human services. Despite its pastoral name, the organization operates out of an urban headquarters in The Landmark Building at 75 East Maiden Street. It serves as a major hub for community support, welcoming over 600 individuals through its doors each week. The nonprofit also publishes the SF Journal, a free community newsletter focusing on mental health, self-care, stigma reduction, and local resources.

History and Legacy

Serenity Farms was launched in 2014 to carry forward the philanthropic legacy of prominent Washington residents Andrew G. and Juliana J. Uram. Andrew Uram was widely known for his local civic commitments, which included securing land for the Boy Scouts' Heritage Reservation and supporting the local Symphony, Citizens Library, and United Way. His son, Matt Uram, serves as the Executive Director and built Serenity Farms on his father's principle of "Service Above Self".

The organization integrates local history into its identity. The Serenity Farms logo features a Greyhound bus, a direct nod to their headquarters in The Landmark Building, which historically served as the city's Greyhound bus station.

Key Facilities and Programs

• The Landmark Building (Room 204): Functions as a daily resource center and gathering space, hosting regular support meetings for Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, and Cocaine Anonymous, alongside educational seminars and Sunday church services.

• Sequoia House: Located at 40 Rural Avenue, this licensed "three-quarter house" provides an eight-bed transitional living space specifically for men in addiction recovery.

• Hillcrest Flats: An affordable housing complex off Hancock Street featuring 30 one-bedroom units dedicated to veterans and seniors, with 10 of those units specifically reserved for veterans.

• Hometown Heroes: Serenity Farms supports the local banner project that lines the streets of Washington with portraits honoring the region's military veterans.
